A wooden moving sculpture inspired by the Spatial Construction designed by constructivist Gustav Klutsis.

The original sketch of this wooden tribute was drawn in 1921 and sought to foresee the future of space usage and geometric knowledge applications in the public buildings to be raised in the Russia of the time.

Similar to Malevich’s Architectons, the Spatial Construction was designed with the possibility of morphing shape and changing structure quickly, allowing multiple possibilities of creation. We have respected this by separately aligning the two concentric square pieces inside the outer structure, which enables the user to move and arrange the sculpture as desired, symmetrically, emptied or fixed with all its parts (see it on the pictures).

Acclaimed for his spatial constructions, as well as for his designs of practical structures like kiosks, tribunes, and radio-orators, Gustav Klutsis (Latvia, 1895-1938) became a professor of colour theory at the constructivist school VKhUTEMAS (Higher State Artistic-technical Workshops) in 1924. As well as being an accomplished constructivist, by the early 1920s Klutsis had become a pioneering developer of photomontage – work for which he is also known.

Once out of the box, the Spatial Construction becomes a living part of the environment – you can hang it from a string, glue it to the ground or wall or regularly change its placement and shape as a decorative item. You can also choose to glue all its pieces to each other or permit their rearrangement by leaving them as the product comes from our workshop.

The emptiness and mobility of the sculpture allow unique games of shadows to be performed.

The product comes already assembled, on a cardboard box of 1 cm of thickness.
